Excerpt #4

Jamie grunted contentedly and snuggled in a bit closer. Was he conscious? Could he possibly know whom he was holding in his arms? Maybe he had been completely aware of his actions this whole time. Had he been as drunk as I? I couldn’t remember. Was he a good guy who made a mistake or a jerk who liked to cheat on his fiancĂ©e by taking stupid, drunk girls home and screwing them?

I suddenly felt disgustingly dirty. Why had I been so easy? Slut girl: give her a drink and watch her spread her legs. Except, that wasn’t me at all. Hell, I could count the guys I’d slept with on one hand and still have a thumb left over. What in the world had possessed me to drunkenly hook up with a guy I barely knew who was getting married in a few months?

I thought of Jen, sound asleep in LA, trusting that her fiancĂ© was alone in his bed too and not curled up, buck naked, in another woman’s arms. She trusted him, and I’d helped him betray that trust. My stomach rolled, and not just from the hangover. I needed to get up. Now.

I squirmed out from under Jamie and vacated the bed. Scanning the room, I found a pair of boxer shorts and an old t-shirt strewn on the floor. After donning the ensemble, I walked to the bathroom.

Staring in the mirror wasn’t pretty. I looked like hell on toast. Black circles under my puffy eyes. Makeup smeared. Bleh.

I brushed my teeth and washed my face and then hit the kitchen to make eggs. What the hell, right? Even the “other woman” needed to eat a balanced Atkins breakfast, and maybe it would get my mind off things at the very least. I tried to swallow down the guilt, but it determinedly rose like bile to my throat. The smell of the scrambled eggs only served to nauseate me further.

“Maddy?” a sleepy voice behind me said a few minutes later. I whirled around. Jamie stood in the doorway, deliciously rumpled. He’d donned his blue jeans but no shirt. I scolded my eyes for straying a second too long on his perfectly sculpted chest. After all, I’d already done more than my share of sampling the forbidden goods already. Time to get my mind out of the gutter and behave like a responsible human being.

I realized my heart was pounding in my chest as I waited for what he’d say next. Then I remembered my manners.

“Do you want some eggs?”

“Maddy, I’ve got to ask you . . .” He raked a hand through his mussed hair in a way that made me pretty sure his question wasn’t whether the eggs came from cage-free chickens.

“Yes?” Cool, calm, collected. Whatever he wanted to ask me, I’d be okay with it.

“I had a lot to drink last night and I wasn’t sure . . . Well I woke up and . . .” He looked around the apartment. “Are we at your place?”

“Yeah, ” I said quietly. He didn’t even remember agreeing to come here. Guess that answered my question about his level of sobriety.

“Oh. Right. And I woke up in . . .” He pointed vaguely toward the bedroom. “. . . and I didn’t know . . .”

“You want to know if we had sex.” I spelled it out, shocked at how clear and cold my voice sounded.

“Y-yeah.” His face reddened at my bluntness. He hadn’t been so shy last night.

“I don’t know, Jamie. I don’t remember either. But I woke up in my bed naked. And you were naked next to me. So I’d say chances are pretty darn good.” I realized I sounded angry. Hurt. Don’t let him see that you care.

Laura Drake is an author. She writes bestselling paranormal romances that continue to top the charts. She is sharp. She is confident. She is in control. And she doesn’t exist.

Samantha Jansen is the woman behind the wig, the woman most of the world doesn’t know exists. She is shy. She is insecure. She is nothing like her main character or her alter ego. She is scarred—deeply scarred—by a past she can’t let go of and a present she can’t make peace with.

Samantha’s dreams are consumed by one man, the broken hero from her books. Mason Strait is both her wildest fantasy and her most terrifying nightmare. When Samantha meets Alec Brand, a corporate consultant, it is as though Mason has come to life.

Alec is handsome to a fault, as elegant as he is arrogant, and more intense than any man has a right to be. Samantha is soon sucked into a world that mirrors the fiction she writes. Just like her main character, Daire Kirby, Samantha finds herself unable to resist the forbidden lure of Alec.

And just like Daire, she also finds that she is faced with taking a chance on a man who could either set her free or destroy her. The scale tilts toward destruction when Samantha finds out that Alec is as much a work of fiction as Mason. And he has scars of his own, scars that could ruin them both.

Rouge (Cheveux Roux #1) by Leigh Talbert Moore Book Review

QUARTER FINALIST---Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award, 2013

Romance, velvet, sequins, and murder...

Hale Ferrer is the rising star of the hottest cabaret in New Orleans. And her one goal is escape. Escape from the lies, from the crime, and from her growing fear that one day she'll have to earn her living in the secret back rooms, where the dancers do more than dance.

But she won't leave behind Teeny, the orphan-girl she promised to protect.

Freddie Lovel is rich, handsome, and in love with Hale, and he's ready to sweep her away with him to Paris. But her heart is captured by Beau, the poor stagehand with eyes as blue as Louisiana iris flowers.

Denying her fears, Hale is ready to choose love and a life with Beau, until a predator hidden in the wings launches a chain of events that could cost her everything--Teeny, their one hope of escape, and possibly even her life.

My Review

5 of 5 Rouge

Rouge was a very fun and exciting read for me. Anyone who knows me knows I love historical books that have descriptions that draw you in and you can actually feel the time period. With Rouge that is what I got and so much more. Set in New Orleans in the 1800's we get to meet an underground theater group. Hale is a singer for the show and she has adopted a small girl Teeny who was left to fend for herself. Hale is a strong character that I loved right away. She tried to do what was right but when she meet Beau the stage hand everything changed for her again.

Hale is to marry her wealthy Parisian Suitor Freddie. She is all set to do that until she falls for Beau. Beau makes her feel things she has never felt. But she soon realizes that their are other things she needs to think about and other people she needs to take care of. She has Teeny to take care of and Freddie can provide that life for them. But the heart wants what it wants and Hale is about to experience that sometimes it can be very hard to follow the heart. As Hale is caught up in something she will have no choice but to chose between her heart and money.

What will she chose? Who will she chose? Will she go with her heart? Will she go with the money and security Freddie can bring? This is such a great love story that will carry you away. You will feel like you are right there next to Hale and when she chooses you will feel her passion in her choice. I have never read a book that has captured so many emotions and I could not tread fast enough because I had to find out what happened but i'll be damned I love Leigh but the ending was a shocker!

My Review

5 of 5 Terrible Love

A terrible Love is one of those stories that is a train wreck waiting to happen and you know it is coming but you can't look the other way. You need to see what is happening even when you know that it is going to be very bad. This story is also very heart wrenching and had me very emotional when reading it. If you have ever been in an abusive relationship then you know what I am talking about. This is a story about survival and learning to let go of the past and move on to the future. Marata did a great job doing the dual POV that had me jumping with joy because I was able to see the story unfold from both characters and get the glimpses one misses when you get a single POV in a story.

Jess Mackey is living a lie. Jess is not her real name and she never ever tells anyone where she is from or about her home life. No one knows the horror she had to endure and what she ran from. She has deep dark secrets that could destroy her and her family. But away at college Jess is someone new and exciting. She has an awesome best friend and she is crushing on the gorgeous Mitch. What more could a girl ask for?

Jess's troubles start when her best friend shows her a flyer for a ballet company who is coming to town looking for auditions for dancers. Something that has laid dormant in her life for a while wakes up and Jess decides she will try out. She knows she shouldn't but she just wants to see what it will feel like after having to give up the one thing she loved more than life. When she is up there dancing she feels like her life is where it should be but dancing again brings back so many memories and unwanted attention that she is not looking for.

If The dancing weren't enough for Jess her love life is a crazy one. She really doesn't want a relationship but she would love to be loved and with real feelings not something made up. She meets Mitch and they hit it off but there is just something about him that has you wondering if he is who he says he is. His true colors come out and when they do you will be shocked just like I was. But then Jess gets attention from Devin. Lord Devin is hot sex on a platter bad boy extraordinaire but he has secrets himself and he does not do relationships. Hook ups yes casual sex yes but feelings no way. Devin tells Jess he wants her for sex with no strings but what happens between the two of them is what really makes this story so incredible.

As I read about Jess and Devin I could not get enough of them. They are both troubled and have pasts and secrets and lies consume them. An Devin finally figures out Jess's secrets. Will he be able to get her to tell him everything? Will Devin still want her? At the end of the day they will have to decide is it worth it to leap or is it worth it to walk away?

Soul Avenged (Sons of Wrath #1) by Keri Lake Book Review

Passion is blind in vengeance and love ...

Ayden’s suburban home was invaded by a pack of Lycans.

The brutal attack is the only memory she carries of her former life.

Now, one motive burns in her soul:

KILL THEM ALL.

The Sons of Wrath—a brood of vengeance-dealing warrior demons—band with Ayden to hunt the Lycans on Detroit’s most deadly feeding grounds.

Kane Walker should’ve been her easiest kill.

Unfortunately, the newly bitten Lycan has something she wants—clues that may finally lay her past to rest. To reach them, she must be willing to submit to the sensual pleasures awakened by his touch.

Time is running out.

In seven days, Kane will become what Ayden despises most. She can halt his transformation but the antidote requires the ultimate sacrifice. As the beast takes hold, Kane becomes more of a threat.

Ayden must choose between her lust for revenge, or surrender to her enemy and discover a horrible truth.

Sons of Wrath

Never gamble with vengeance

My Review

5 of 5 Soul Avenged

First I have to say that this story is AMAZING! I have never read a story where the author has joined lycans and demons. The flow of the story was also a plus because Keri took the time to build her worlds and when they collided they worked well together. I also really enjoyed the descriptions Keri posted in the beginning of the book because some things as I was reading I had to check and see what they were. This of course caused me to really get into the book because I had to do like a mini read on the side to make sure I understood what was going on and I loved every minute of it. This book is by no means a small book it is actually long but it worked and I am glad I was able to read it.

Ayden is a strong character and can hold her own. What I really enjoyed about her was that after she was attacked she was determined to get revenge. She did not sit back and cry about it but she decided she would get even and find out who she really is. Ayden is such a kick butt character that I found myself thinking what gave her the strength to keep going? I mean she lives with the demons and holy hotness are they. They have their own agenda and what happens in this story is so much.

You go from one scene to the next and as things unfold Ayden meets Kane and she knows Kane can give her answers she needs but there is just one tiny issue with Kane and he has limited time to help Ayden. Will Kane be able to help her get back what was taken from her? Because has two choices on the brain and they are not looking good at all. Is Ayden going to get revenge like she wants or will her heart stop her and she succumb to something or someone else?

This is a must read! I promise you will not be disappointed.

Surrender Your Love (Surrender Your Love #1) by J.C. Reed Book Review

Meeting Jett was like lightning. Dangerous. Better left untouched. And better forgotten. But lightning always strikes twice.

When he proposes two months of no strings sex, Brooke is intrigued and accepts his proposal. Little does she know Jett’s determined to claim the one woman he can’t have, pulling her deeper into his dangerous world.

A man who doesn't take 'no' for an answer.

A woman afraid to surrender to love.

Two lives that are about to cross...and secrets laid bare.

My Review

5 of 5 Jett and Brooke

First I want to say that I am so dam pissed at myself for not reading this book sooner. Holy Jett this book was incredible. I could not put it down and when my eyes were closing I would force them open so I could keep reading. I eventually had to put it down but I picked it back up this morning and I have to say that I absolutely love J.C. and I need need book like I need air to breathe. I mean who would not love a strong alpha male and a strong alpha female as characters but what makes this book and did it for me was the flow of the book and the development of characters. I have been reading a lot of NA books and I loved most of them I found that some did not have the flow like I needed.

Choppy reading is for the birds dude I want a book where I can get into it and I can picture the characters and even relate to them with a song and by the way Rhianna's Stay is Jett and Brooke's song.

The words: All along it was a fever

A cold sweat hot-headed believer

I threw my hands in the air, said, "Show me something,"

He said, "If you dare come a little closer."

Round and around and around and around we go

Oh now tell me now tell me now tell me now you know

Not really sure how to feel about it.

Something in the way you move

Makes me feel like I can't live without you.

It takes me all the way.

I want you to stay

It's not much of a life you're living

It's not just something you take – it's given

Ooh the reason I hold on

Ooh cause I need this hole gone

Funny you're the broken one but I'm the only one who needed saving

Cause when you never see the light it's hard to know which one of us is caving

This song sums up so much for these two who happened to meet and fall in love but circumstances be what they are come in between them and choices and decisions are made and once they are made there is no turning back. Quotes from Surrender Your Love

“I had never seen eyes like his. Dark green. Smoldering. Ready to undress a woman with a single glance.”

“Tragedy may hit all of us in one way or another, but fate's not our enemy, Brooke. We are. By locking yourself away from the world, you choose your own mistakes and destroy any chance of ever finding happiness. You cannot control life, but you can chose who you are and what you make of it.”

“Why do you want me?" I asked, suppressing the trembling of my voice. "I’m strange, definitely not perfect, and fucked up. Actually, a lot of the latter.”
“Perfect is boring and overrated.” He smiled that lopsided grin of his that made my lower abdomen twist and curl with delicious desire. “I’m looking for sexy, fun, kind, and honest. And you tick all the right boxes, Brooke.”

“Falling in love often happens at the wrong time, in the wrong place, with the wrong person.”

“Maybe someday, I'd find someone who'd prove he really loved me. Someone who'd hold me rather than let me fall. Someone who'd never lie to me.”

“To me, love was a drug. Jett was my drug.”

“This isn’t working, Brooke. Don’t get me wrong, the sex is amazing. But it’s turning into something else, and I need to know where I’m standing. I need to know whether we’ll ever be together.”

Ever since the one time Andie Weber threw caution to the wind - and paid the price for it - she’s learned that it’s safer and smarter to live life playing by the rules. Now she’s got a great apartment, a steady job, and a wonderful boyfriend in Colin; he’s sweet, stable, and essentially perfect – except maybe for the fact that his best friend is Chase.

Chase McGuire lives his carefree, unstructured life strictly for himself. Dripping sarcasm and oozing wit, he refuses to censor his feelings or opinions for anyone, making no apologies for either and wearing his abrasiveness like a badge of honor. No one has ever gotten under Andie’s skin the way Chase does – and vice versa.

So when Andie and Chase find themselves forced to take a two-day road trip together, they are already dreading an inevitable all-out war. But as the trip progresses, and the undeniable friction that has always defined their relationship slowly begins to wear away their preconceived notions of each other, Andie and Chase discover they both have a lot to learn about life, courage, happiness, and the age-old battle between logic and love.

Guest Post #2

The Inspiration for Emancipating Andie

It all began with a girls’ night and a few bottles of wine. (Don’t all great stories start that way?) Somehow we began discussing the topic of “celebrity freebies” and one of my good friends said of her freebie, “I would give anything to be trapped in a room with him for a week.” I didn’t think anything of it that night; in fact, I believe my blood-alcohol content at the time would only allow me to nod furiously and conjure up my own “trapped” fantasy with my celebrity freebie. (Or freebies. I may or may not have three of them. But my husband did approve them all, and that’s what counts, right?)

It was some time the next day that I started thinking about that concept, the whole “trapped for a week with someone” scenario. I understand the idea behind it: you’d love to be isolated with (insert object of fantasy here) so you can treat their body like your own personal amusement park. Totally get it. But if you look at it realistically (not the point of a fantasy, I know - I’m such a party pooper) how long could you actually keep up that charade? If you were really stranded with someone for a week, eventually, you would need a breather, right? So at some point, you would end up simply spending time together. And I thought, “Hmm, I wonder - if I were stranded with (Robert Pattinson, Caleb Followill, or Georges St. Pierre…don’t judge me), would I still swoon for him once the ‘amusement park’ part was over?” I’m sure you would learn a lot about someone, being trapped together for an extended period of time. Would that end up fostering the crush on that person, or extinguishing it?

And then I thought, “Well, what about the reverse? What if you were stuck with someone you hated? Could that ‘trapped’ time together actually end with you liking them?” And voila, the idea for Emancipating Andie was born.

For the record, I would still chance a week trapped with one (or all) of my freebies, knowing it could very well end in disaster. Just felt I should put that out there in case any of them happen to frequent romance book blogs in their spare time.

:) Happy reading!

YA Bound Presents Of Silver and Beasts By Trisha Wolfe Book Blitz

***Excerpt***

“What’s your rank, baby blue eyes?” the guy asks, pushing off his cot and stalking toward the prince. Everything in me screams to act, but I don’t want to declare alliances this early on. Not without understanding the dynamic of placements and bonds already formed among these people. But I’ll not let this hulk of a man harm the prince. I brace my heel against the wall, ready to push off and lunge.

Prince Caben rises to his feet, slowly turning to face him. He straightens his spine, squaring his shoulders. “I don’t have one. And my name is Payne. Not ‘baby blue eyes’, meathead.” Big guy laughs, his husky voice bounces off the rock walls. “I’m Crew”—he beats his chest hard once, like a barbarian—“and I’ve won three fights. I’ll win the next two and be the one awarded the freedom ring.” He leans down toward Prince Caben, leveling their faces. “So don’t even think about you or your princess over there walking out of here. I’m ranked as a Colossal.

The strongest Colossal in Bax’s league.” Princess? I nearly scoff. Then I realize what the problem with Crew is: he feels threatened by Prince Caben. That revelation almost makes me laugh out right. What does a big stack of muscles like Crew have to fear from the prince? The other prisons slowly circle around the stand-off in the center of the cell. Tension thickens the musty air. It coils around my spine, tightening my muscles. If I allow the fight to continue without interruption, will the guards stop it?

They’d want their fighters in pristine shape, wouldn’t they? Prince Caben doesn’t back away from Crew. Instead, he moves into his space. I roll my eyes. Stupid, conceited man. “Freedom ring?” the prince questions. “As in, there’s a chance to leave?” He rubs his chin, and I notice the dark shadow of facial hair that has darkened his features overnight. “Is there a season that has to be won, or can someone gain five wins during their entire imprisonment?” Crew’s eyebrows pinch together. He’s clearly despondent that he hasn’t succeeded in intimidating the prince.

“We’re in a season right now, you weakling. If you don’t win—you’re dead. Which by the looks of you, will happen in your first match.” Prince Caben nods, as if he’s simply piecing together a jigsaw puzzle and not being told of his demise. “What is the cuff for?” He points to the iron clamp around Crew’s wrist. “It’s our biometric monitor.” Crew shoves the cuff up close to the prince’s face. “See those three blue lights? Those are my wins. When the fifth lights up, I’m outta’ here.” “Has anyone ever won the freedom ring before?” Prince Caben asks. Crew’s massive arms tremble. “No,” he grinds out. “But I will.” He cocks his cuffed hand back, then sends a blow to Prince Caben’s chin.

Hell. I’m up and racing across the cell before the prince hits the ground. Crew spots me from his peripheral. He turns and swipes the air. I duck, roll, and come up behind him. I jump on the cot and leap onto his back. “You squirrely little ...” he mumbles, trying to reach over his shoulders to get a hold on me. Tightening my arms around his thick neck, I squeeze. He gasps for air, and rams my back into the wall. I wheeze as the air whooshes from my lungs, pain splintering through my already bruised chest. But I hold tight, bearing down harder, and cut off his supply of oxygen. Finally, I feel Crew weaken beneath my hold. He drops to his knees, and I only release him once I’m sure he’s knocked out. Stepping around the now limp Crew, I glance at all the wide eyes studying me, and meet the prince’s.

Fury ignites his stormy blue irises. He picks himself off the floor and heads toward one of the side chambers, throwing the tattered material aside as he stalks inside. I follow after him. When I step inside the tiny, dank room, my eyes trail Prince Caben as he paces. He reaches each side of the small chamber with three quick strides. Back and forth. On his third round, I open my mouth and get out a single syllable before he holds up a hand, halting me. He drives his hand through his dark hair. “Thank you for making me look like a spineless jerk.” He shakes his head and faces me.

Taken aback, I say, “This is my duty to protect—” “No. In your country it was your duty to guard me. In my world and here”—he opens his arms wide—“a man fights his own battles. He does not depend on a woman to fight them for him. You just disgraced me.” Fire simmers in my core. “I’m still assigned as your protector no matter what realm we inhabit, Your High—” I stop myself before addressing him by title out of habit. “Your pride is polluting your reasoning.” He laughs. “Yes, well. Thanks to your show out there, I no longer have my pride to worry about.”

Book Promo For Trick by Lori Garrett

Gunner Hunt—resident bad boy and town loser—made one smart, selfless decision in his entire screwed up life—he walked away from Harlow Mills.

He and Harlow had one summer of mind-blowing sex and passion, but Gunner knew he wasn't good enough. He loved Harlow enough to walk away.

It's been three years since Gunner stomped on her heart and left her broken, but when Harlow walks into the dive bar he now owns, that familiar spark reignites and burns through both of them.

Contrary to what Gunner thinks, Harlow isn't just lusting after the off-limits bad boy...or the toe curling sex they have. She wants Gunner back, and she wants him for good.

But some things never change, and even though their feelings—and their chemistry—are still going strong, the fact remains that Gunner’s world of motorcycles, booze, and a band of screwed up brothers is no place for Harlow Mills, card-carrying member of multiple country clubs and daughter of a millionaire.

Gunner has two choices:

Accept that Harlow deserves better than him, and walk out on her…again.

Or man up and learn to be good enough for the only girl he wants in his bed, and his heart.

Gunner tricked himself into believing he didn't need Harlow in his life once before...but can he give up the only woman he ever loved a second time?

My Review

5 of 5 Gunner and Harlow

Can I just say HOLY HADES.... SWEET BABY JESUS.....and everything in between! Man THANK YOU Lori for allowing me to read Trick. Lord I started it this morning at 8am at work and could not put it down until I finished it at 4pm. This is a book I am recommending to everyone on goodreads to read. I mean it hooked me right from the first line to the very end. Have you ever been in love and had your heart broken? Well this book is about first loves that never go away. Keeping feelings alive for the one person you want and will stop at nothing to have. No matter what people say or do you are willing to fight for that love. Lord ramblings of a mad reader that is how good this book is!

Gunner and Harlow are from two different worlds. Gunner is a boy from the wrong side of the tracks with no intentions on settling down.He is going to live life hard and fast and take what he wants when he wants. Harlow is the only child to a wealthy family. She has everything she could want and ask for. She is daddy's little girl and does whatever her father says. Then one day that all changes for Gunner and Harlow when Harlow's car breaks down and Gunner is out on a beer run and he stops to help her. Their romance starts out as a summer romance strong and hard and Harlow experiences a lot of firsts she would have never dreamed of. Their romance is like a wild fire that takes root in a small area and goes all out until it has consumed everything and everyone.

Then Gunner tells Harlow to move on and get her a rich guy who can take care of her and give her the things her father has given. Gunner thinks he can't give Harlow what she needs but all Harlow wants is Gunner and nothing else. Their journey is not pretty and it is laced with lot's of twists and turns but it is their story and what unfolds when Gunner and Harlow reunite after three long years apart is where this book will have you laughing then crying and then just plain out pissed at Gunner because he is a bad boy but he is something else deep down and he can't see it but Harlow can see it.

This is a MUST READ with lot's of sex and dirty talk so be warned but it is the BOMB! Read all about Gunner Hunt and Harlow.
