Sometimes being happily married and completely content is not at all what it seems.

That is what 35 year old, happily married mother of two, Alexis Summers finds out when decides it is time to return to work. After being a stay-at-home Mum for the past nine years, Alexis now realizes a complete career change is just what she needs.

She becomes a Concierge Attendant in a prestigious hotel in Melbourne working for the owner of the hotel, Bryce Clark. He resides in the penthouse, is extremely hot and is a man who always gets what he wants—and what he wants is Alexis. She does a relatively good job resisting Bryce at first, but the undeniable chemistry, sexual tension and playfulness between the two of them is intense. He has copious amounts of money, sex appeal and above all, is a genuinely nice guy. Bryce has been waiting for his one true love to come along and he is positive that one true love is Alexis.

There is one problem; she is happily married to Rick, and no matter how strong her feelings are for Bryce, she is adamant she will not cheat. She draws a line in the sand but finds it increasingly hard not to cross. Will she succumb to Temptation?

My Review

5 of 5 Temptation

Temptation what does it mean to be tempted? In this first book of the Temptation series we meet Alexis who is 35 years old and happily married with two kids. She is living the American dream with her husband whom she loves dearly. She stays at home to raise their two children and when they are old enough she decides she wants to put her college degree in Hotel Management to use. So she decides she is going to go back to work. She gets a job as a Concierge Attendant for a prestigious hotel.

She is so excited and nervous on her first day of work that she actually spills coffee on the owner of hotel who is incidentally her boss Bryce Clark. Lord she is so nervous and apologizes and feels embarrassed but her boss assures her it is okay. Bryce and Alexis soon form a friendship but it becomes more for the both of them but Alexis is happily married and she wants no one else but her husband or so she thinks. It becomes clear that she and Bryce have chemistry together but she is married and she will not cross that line. To bad for her Bryce does not think that because he is a man that is used to getting what he wants and he wants Alexis and he is willing to do whatever it is that he has to do to make her his in every way.

Bryce isn't used to having these strong feelings towards a woman so when he can't get Alexis out of his mind he knows she is the one for him. She is his forever but how to prove that to Alexis is the problem when she thinks she is happily married to her husband Rick. But soon that won't really be a problem because Rick discloses some things to Alexis and Alexis leaves him and she runs to the one man she can trust and that is Bryce. But Bryce is keeping something from her and she knows it and she knows eventually she will find out and when she does she will deal with it from there.

But what happens when the secrets and the lies come out? Who will be left standing and who will crumble down? I have to say this because it happens in real life. Just because your married does not mean that person is for you. You could meet someone who will totally sweep you off your feet and that person can be your game changer. In this first book we see how that unfolds and how the temptation was there but Alexis was smart in how she handled things and Bryce lord let me tell you I would love to clone him!

Mary Elizabeth's Crazy Book Obsession Presents Without Boundaries (Without, #1) by C.J. Azevedo Blog Tour Stop

Blurb:

Bailey Hayes moved across the country ten years ago after a tragic accident left her motherless. Distraught, confused and just sad, Bailey opted to leave the only life she has ever known to attend college at NYU. Determined to not experience the loss of a loved one again, Bailey keeps her one friend that she made as a freshmen in college. And that’s it. She dated during her college years but she never let anything really stick. Not trusting herself enough to give her heart and not get hurt she was satisfied with the life she led. That is until she met the handsome, confident and successful Hollister Harrison.

Bailey was swept off her feet instantly with his charm and charisma. Six short months of dating, she finds herself moving in with him. The minute she had her bags unpacked, the fun loving romantic she fell hard for was starting to dwindle away as he became unnecessarily possessive and borderline abusive. Bailey insists on making her relationship work in fear of repeating her past and making a haste decision by leaving too soon. On a weekend when Hollister is out of town, she meets a guy. A beautiful charming guy whom she feels an obvious attraction for, but also a unique connection with. The beautiful charming guy is none other than her running partner’s brother. Bailey finds herself in an oddly nice predicament.

The beautiful charming guy is none other than her running partner’s brother. Talon McAllister has chosen to dedicate himself to his family’s business his entire adult life. He adores his parents and his sister and hockey. Not leaving much time for anything else he has been single for years. Meeting Bailey Hayes changed his outlook. He wants her. He will do whatever he has to do to get her on the same page.

Finding out she lives with her boyfriend deters him from his mission of getting her to be his. But when she calls and asks to tag along on his vacation with his sister, he can’t help but get excited. When he picks her up and sees her bruised and battered face he figures “game over” he is going to show her how she deserves to be treated. By the end of their first day together alone, Bailey propositions Talon with a brief relationship without boundaries and no lines to cross. He’s in… all in.

Will this brief encounter without boundaries relinquish her twisted sense of loyalty to Hollister or will she walk away from her greatest love for fear of repeating her past?

My Review

5 of 5 Without Boundaries

Without Boundaries is an incredible debut story from C.J. Azevedo. I have to say that when I first looked at the book cover I was intrigued and then I read the blurb and I was determined to get a copy of the book. I normally don't do the stocking thing when it comes to authors and finding out how to get an ARC copy but this book pulled me in and I knew I needed it like I needed air to breathe. I am so glad I received an ARC copy and started reading it straight away because this is one story that will take you on an emotional journey of pain, loss, love and finding one's self.

Bailey has a great life and wouldn't ask for more until one day tragedy strikes her and her family and her mother dies. Without her mother Bailey feels lost and confused so she does the only thing she thinks will help and that is to go away to college and get away from the grief and pain that haunts her everyday. She moves to NYU and starts her college years where she has only one friend and keeps to herself. Yes she has dated but nothing serious because she keeps her heart locked up under lock and key because she never ever wants to experience the pain of loss from a loved one again.

Then Bailey meets the handsome charismatic Hollister Harrison and her life is about to change and take on a direction she thought she would never have. Hol is fun loving and treats Bay with respect and love and he soon wears down the walls she has crafted around her heart. It only takes six months for Bay to fall hard and decide to move in with him. But after she moves in with him the honey moon is over because Hol shows his true side and that is that he is controlling and possessive and at times abusive. Bay can't believe she is going through these things with Hol but she puts up with it because she opened up her heart and she thinks she can change things between her and Hol. She thinks deep down inside there is the guy she fell in love with but Hol is an asshole through and through and he is not going to change for anyone no matter what so he continues to treat her like crap.

Then one day while out running she literally runs into a guy. She is mortified that that has happened but she and the guy start to talk and she finds out it is her running partners brother. He is good looking and funny so she starts a friendship with him. Talon McAllister is taken by this beautiful girl who never ceases to amaze him with her loving and carefree attitude. Bay awakens something in Talon and he decides he is ready to start dating. Talon has spent his life caring for his family and running the family business so when he finds himself thinking about Bay he knows she is special. But then Talon finds out she has a boyfriend with whom she lives with and he decides to step back because he has never been the type of man to infringe on anyone's territory so he decides to remain friends and keep his feelings to himself.

Then Talon and his sister are going on vacation and when Bay calls and asks to go Talon is excited because he wants to spend time with her. But things change when Talon goes to pick Bay up and she comes out battered and bruised because Hol decides she was going to be his punching bag. Right there Talon decides he is going to protect her at all costs. And this is where the story truly develops and changes for everyone. I won't go into detail because this story is truly amazing and the beginning is just a prelude to what is going to happen and how much Bay has to endure before she sees that there is a rainbow at the end of the rain storm. This is a must read and I can't wait to read book two to see what happened to everyone!

Excerpt:

“You left without giving me an explanation as to why you up and left the way you did. What happened?” His voice is deep and seductive with a hint of gruffness to it. My knees are weak. I can’t find my voice, and I’m sure once I open my mouth he’s going to be able to tell how much he is affecting me right now. Deep breath. Deep breath. Breathe Bay. “I just haven’t gone out in so long, it was getting late and I drank my drinks too quickly. I just felt like I needed to go home, so I did.

” “Yeah, that’s what Kali said, but the thing is, I just don’t believe you.” He takes a few more steps towards me and comes around the table so he’s standing inches away from me. My heart is pounding out of my chest. He is now acknowledging the lack of space between us by whispering in a husky tone. “I know I was having a good time with you and I’m fairly certain you were having a good time with me. Am I wrong Bay?” Pretty much everyone calls me Bay, they have my whole life.

But Talon saying it is making my body react in a way it never has before to the nickname. I am caving, I am opening my mouth to tell him he was not wrong at all. That I was having the best time ever with him out there on that dance floor. That I came home and dreamed of him for the last forty eight hours. Night and day thoughts of him consumed me.

Excerpt:

“I can’t even explain how much I have missed you Bailey. I knew being friends would have never worked while you were figuring out your life, but I have missed your friendship more than anything.” I kiss the side of her head and she gently rubs my thighs with the tips of her fingers. “I have never met anyone who connects with me the way you do. The way we can talk about anything and make it an interesting topic. The way even holding hands is intimate between us. You are it for me, Bay. I’ll take as much time as you need, go as slow as you want but just know that I’m not going anywhere this time. I’m here, in your life forever. I will be your husband one day Bailey Hayes. Do you understand?”

My Review

5 of 5 Innocent

First off I have to give a HUGE Thank You to Literati Author Services for allowing me to be a part of this tour and an EXTRA HUGE THANK YOU to Kailin Gow for sending me an ARC of The Innocent. After reading The Protege I was blown away. Kailin is very talented and she can write a story like no one's business.

In Innocent the story continues with Serena, Sebastian, Price, and Willow. These characters are very interesting and kept the story going and kept me on the edge of the seat. Serena is with Price and she has learned a few things about him that she does not like. She realizes that he has kept some secrets hidden from her and everything she thought she knew was a lie. Price is an evil controlling man that will stop at nothing to have her but Serena is ready to move on with Sebastian. Her secret is out to Sebastian and she realizes she wants him to.

Sebastian had to come to terms with what his family wanted from him. He knows he does not want Willow and when he tells her that she tells him she is going to destroy Serena. That does not sit well with Sebastian and he tells Willow he will destroy her if she goes nears Serena. Sebastian realized he loves Serena and is willing to rescue her from Price and his controlling ways.

Sebastian takes Serena away out of the country and as they begin to build a life together they realize that they can make it work. They have dark pasts and secrets that nearly destroyed them but together they can and will make it work. But Sebastian knows Willow and Price are out there plotting against them and soon they will see how far those two are willing to go to keep Sebastian and Serena apart.

This is an epic follow up to The Protege and I need book three like yesterday! Thank you Kailin for writing such a kick a$$ story!

Excerpt:

I’m not sure why I did it, but I got up two hours early, took an extra long shower, made sure my hair cooperated, and put on my good makeup. Okay, that’s a lie. I know exactly why I put so much effort into getting ready. Today, I am supposed to see Cohen. Not only am I supposed to see Cohen, but we also have plans to go out to dinner.

Once again, I’m unsure about what he wants to discuss, but this time, I’m trying not to make any assumptions. Also on the agenda, I hope to not injure him or myself while we’re spending time together. I walk into the office with my chin up and a big smile on my face. If he is already here, I want to look like I’ve been fine. I sure as hell don’t want him thinking that I’ve been moping around and pining away for him since last Friday morning. Making my way through the maze of cubicles toward my office, I see no sign of him. I let out a sigh as I step through my door.

I place my workbag next to the desk, and I turn to glance at the clock. Something moves in my peripheral vision. It scares me enough to make me jump back, causing me to fall into my large potted plant-tree-thing in the corner. To avoid hitting the ground, I sit cockeyed in the pot. My face is covered in limbs and large green leaves. Peeking through the human-eating plant, I can see Cohen sitting on the comfortable sofa with one hand held over his mouth.

I don’t hear any sounds, but from the looks of it, he’s laughing. For some reason, my usual standoffish self takes a holiday. I launch myself up from my seat in the pot holding the plant, and I take brisk steps toward him. “What are you doing in my office? Do you enjoy scaring the crap out of women and causing near catastrophes? Or is it just when you see me?” His eyes grow wide, and those sexy wrinkles beside his eyes fade. Thank God. I don’t think I could hold on to my angry attitude if he kept smiling. “Mr. Hargrove wanted me to tell you that we’ll be meeting in the conference room at eight thirty.

I have to leave by the end of the week, so we need to get started on the rest of our project. I came to tell you, but you weren’t here yet, so I made myself comfortable. I’m sorry if I scared you.” “Right. Okay. Well, you can go now. I’ll see you at the meeting,” I say, turning toward my desk. With my shoulders back and head held high, I walk over to my desk chair and sit. Looking back at Cohen, I give him the meanest stare I can muster.

“See you there.” He stands to leave, but then hesitates as if he wants to say something else. His mouth is open, but then he bites down on his bottom lip, holding back. “Did you need something else?” “Actually, I was just going to tell you that unless you enjoy the feel of sitting on bark, you should probably find a mirror and wipe off your skirt.” You have got to be kidding me! He walks out of the office with the wrinkles by his eyes reappearing.

Author Bio:

I have enjoyed reading and writing since I was very young. Some of my fondest memories from childhood are of spending time with my mom or grandma reading a good book. Over the years, it never crossed my mind that writing my own novel would be an attainable goal. After reading several independently published novels by Jamie McGuire, Colleen Hoover and others, I decided I needed to give that dream a chance.

When I’m not reading and writing, I enjoy spending time with my three favorite guys: my husband and my two little boys.

Exclusive Excerpt:

I open my eyes to find myself inside a massive, onyx and gold shower. Not just a shower. This place is like a fracking bathhouse. I can count nine shower spouts without moving my head.

I don't want to move my head, because it feels weird. Good weird. I close my eyes before I realize that's because someone is playing with my hair.

Awareness returns with a jolt, and I stop breathing. I'm in a super-sized shower with Missy King. Meredith Kinsey. I'm in a super-sized shower with Merri, and in the span of one second, a boatload of insane memories populate my brain.

Merri, stripping off my clothes. Merri, rubbing my back and neck. Merri, giving me water and playing with my feet.

“Anything to distract you.”

God, I know her voice better than I know my own right now. I feel like she spent decades whispering in my ear. I feel like she spent eons lying beside me on the floor. That's what she did, I realize. She must have been in here with me the whole time. How long has it been?

I don't dare move or open my mouth to ask. Her fingers in my hair feel great. I know it's wrong—it’s wrong for so many reasons—but I don't want her to stop.

But all of a sudden, the fingers in my hair go away and I can feel her getting up. When I think she's a few paces away, I slit my eyes and see that she's wearing a short, pale blue cotton nightgown. Since I'm on the floor, I have a nice view of her ass cheeks.

She turns to do something, and I shut my eyes as she sinks back down beside me.

“Can you drink some water for me, Evan?”

She thinks my name is Evan. Right.

I don't move, and I feel her small hand touch my shoulder, fingers tickling the skin before settling warmly on it. I think I'm naked under a towel.

“Evan...” I can feel her breath on me. Beneath the towel, I'm getting excited. I try to think about baseball, but I never did like that shit. Maybe I make a weird expression, because she cries, “Evan, are you awake?”

I open my eyes slowly, finding hers and giving her a small smile. “Guilty as charged.” I start to cough because my mouth is dry, and she's right there with a glass. There's a pink straw in it. I raise my right hand to guide it to my mouth but I grab her hand instead.

“Sorry.” A blush spreads across her cheeks. “I'm used to doing this part.”

With her delicious little body half an inch away from mine I’m even thirstier. I gulp the water down. I finish, and she sits up straighter, giving me a great view of her amazing rack. Waves of reddish hair obscure her face. She brushes it back, revealing a smile that looks shy. “This is weird, huh?”

“What, this?” I wave at myself. “Nah. I spend most of my time in showers with beautiful women, so this is just a normal day for me.”

Her eyes widen, and I laugh. “Kidding.” I push myself up on my right elbow, slightly embarrassed to find that, yeah, I'm naked and hiding a boner under a bunch of half-wet towels. “So I’ve been naked for how long?”

She blushes, and I'm surprised she still does that, after everything she’s been through. “In a few hours, it will be twenty-four hours.”

I give a low whistle. “That long.”

She nods. “You had a rough time.”

“So I hear.”

“You don't remember after?”

“Bits and pieces.” I never remember anything coherent. Just sensations. Most of them brain-killingly painful. I'm not gonna say that, though. Don’t want to sound like a pussy.

She tilts her head to the side, then leans closer and smooths my hair back with her palm. She smiles. “It dried standing straight up. Because I was rubbing your head.”

I look into her face and try to picture that. My moaning, sleeping ass, attended to by someone who looks like the nurse you only get in a dirty movie. Someone who, even now, is looking at me with a double dose of concern.

Why does she care?

I like it.

I shouldn't like it.

Green River (Book #1) a Shifter Chronicle by Elizabeth Loraine Blog Tour Stop

Aidan watched the girls cower on the bed as their father, in a drunken rage, beat on the bedroom door.   Drawn to the girls by some unknown power, he was irrevocably intertwined in their lives against both his tribe and his parents’ admonitions to “leave them to their own", but Aidan knew his mission was to safeguard Charlotte and Missy from the darkness that stalked them.  In her new Shifter series, author Elizabeth Loraine draws you to the seamy underside of Seattle and to the lush forests of the Pacific Northwest as Characters Aidan, Charlotte and Missy explore their complex bond, the mysteries surrounding their separate cultures and a common enemy.

I grew up in a small northern Minnesotan town married my high school sweetheart, had two beautiful children and as soon as we could we moved to a warmer climate. I have worked with my husband building and decorating custom homes for years. After loving every kind of vampire book, movie and series since I was a child, I decided that I wanted to know more. I can write a book I thought, how hard can that be? Well....it wasn't as easy as I thought, but I stuck to it, and finished my first book Royal Blood Chronicles Book One in August 2009. I now have six books in the series and am about to release book two of my new series Phantom Lives.   My parents always told me that I could do anything that I wanted, work hard, and do it right. I believe that, and live that every day. I started writing this new vampire series for teens and their moms because I wanted something different to read. I was tired of all the modern versions of vampire books, there had to be more to these long lived beings. Where had they been, what had they seen? I wanted, no I NEEDED to know more, so Royal Blood Chronicles was born!  As in Royal Blood Chronicles, Phantom Lives features strong female characters and action and adventure mixed with romance, friendship and a historical backdrop. I hope you enjoy them.

Book Description:

Piper Downing knows a thing or two about death. She’s spent her entire life working inside her family’s funeral home. Now thirty, Piper’s been running the place on her own for what feels like an eternity. Not that she minds. Losing her parents at a young age, watching her teenage boyfriend die before her eyes, and seeing every type of death and tragedy possible in her line of work did something to her psyche. Piper copes with her job—and the world—by putting every emotion in a box and burying it. She doesn’t get close to people, has no friends, and only has relationships with men for sexual satisfaction. She doesn’t love. Love is selfish.

Macy Quinn Oliver knows a thing or two about death, too. An injury caused him to be honorably discharged as a fighter pilot and now he works as grief counselor at the local VA hospital. He grew up in a family that understands the pain of death, yet embraces what it means. He was taught that death isn’t the end, it is simply… until next time. Even after losing his young bride to brain cancer, Quinn loves. Quinn lives. But because of his vow to his late wife, Quinn will never marry. When he meets Piper at his Grandmother’s wake, her chestnut hair and matching eyes stirs him in a way that hasn’t happened for a long time.

And Quinn has the same effect on Piper. Together they make the perfect pair; a girl who won’t love and a guy who won’t marry. But in order to get their happy ever after, Piper has to learn that love isn’t an end all, and Quinn must make a commitment he promised to never make again.

EXCERPT #1

“What’s wrong?” Quinn asked. “Remember I said no one’ll bite you.”

She fiddled with the wisps of hair around her ear. “I know. It’s…well…I’ve never…done this kind of thing before.”

He frowned. “You’ve never been to someone’s house?”

An adorable chuckle rolled from her lips. “No. Well, yes.” Her hand fluttered to her chest.

She still hadn’t looked him in the eyes again. Her gaze was drawn to her feet. Or maybe it was the chipped paint on the floorboards. Or the speck of dust on her perfectly polished black shoe. Quinn didn’t know. But she wasn’t looking at him.

“Piper? Uh, may I call you Piper?”

“Of course, Mr. Oliver.”

“Quinn.”

“Yes. Quinn.” Her lips twitched as she said his name. Like she was trying it out.

He tilted his head and studied her. “Are you feeling okay? You look pale.”

“Fine. Really. I don’t normally get together with clients, is all. Personally, I mean.”

“Too painful?”

Her flawlessly arched brow rose as she finally looked at him once again. There was something there, a spark of knowing that Quinn recognized. The woman had seen pain in her profession. He could understand. Staying a safe distance from death when she could would make sense, he guessed. And going to an after-the-viewing wake for a client probably wasn’t on her list of to-dos.

“Something like that,” she whispered. She ushered herself past him, straightening her lean shoulders as she met the rest of his family head-on.

About the Author:

Justine lives in the Midwest, happily catering to her family, which consists of a horse-obsessed teenage daughter, four dogs, and a husband who is to good to be true. She’s never moved from her hometown, but hopes to grow old in a much warmer climate. During the day she works a normal job with college students who try their best to keep her young. They’ve done a good job thus far. At night, said teenage daughter and her horse require mounds of love and attention. The weekends belong solely to her and her writing. That’s when she morphs into a sticky bug, unable to leave the confines of her computer chair.

She started writing three years ago after seeing a movie that set off a chain reaction she couldn’t have stopped if she’d wanted. It’s not a hobby for her; it’s an obsession. One she loves and one she loves to share. Her debut novel, RECAPTURED DREAMS, and her second book, ALL AMERICAN GIRl, are available now on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and wherever books are sold.

EXCERPT #3

“You didn’t have to go through all that trouble, you know. Store-bought cookies would’ve done the trick.”

A rumbling laugh rolled out him, his eyes glittering with mischief in the mix of low sun and candle light.

“You’re special, I guess,” he said on a sigh.

Her face went hot. She busied herself stuffing her mouth full of food so she wouldn’t have to say anything. After she finally thought she could control the ping-pong of sizzle, she spoke again. “Why the graveyard, Quinn? I think your tactic of asking me out alone was clever, but this…this has to be the strangest place I’ve ever had dinner with a man.”

His gaze caught hers. “Romantic?”

“Surprisingly, yes.”

“Unforgettable?”

“Positively.”

He leaned back in his seat, studying her. “Then I’ve done well.”

She looked down at her empty plate, unable to stare at the strong features of his face. The twitch of his dimple when he smiled. The soft observation of his eyes. This really wasn’t turning out to be a total bust. And her resolve to not like him was quickly slipping through her fingers.

A hand appeared before her face. “Walk with me?” His voice caressed her senses. No other’s man voice had ever done that.

She looked up, feeling out of place with her inner electricity acting like he was the cure for the fire beneath her skin. That thought terrified her, but she wouldn’t tell him no. He’d gone to all this trouble. There was this churning feeling in her stomach, making her wonder if Quinn’s trouble was going to end up being her trouble, too.

My Review

5 of 5 The Rocker That Needs Me

First I want to say two things about this book and my review. First I would like to say that I in no way condone CHEATING or condone relations that involve young girls and older guys. With that said it is a reality that happens everyday and I really loved this story because it was raw and emotional and had aspects that hold true in the rock world. If you don't like raw and gritty stories then do not read this series or review. With that said here is my review.

Drake has demons and he is trying very hard to fight them. He tries to drown his problems with alcohol. Thinking the alcohol is going to numb the pain he is going through but all he ends up doing is making things worse. Drake has an angel a girl he is in love with but she comes with complications and that is just the tip of the ice berg because Drake does what men do best. He gets the girl his angel but then treats her wrong and they go through ups and downs but in the end Drake will have to decide on whether he wants his angel and what he is willing to do to keep her.

Lana knows Drake is her soul mate. She loves him and he loves her but there is that pesky little age difference that is coming between them. But Lana is determined to show Drake love and show him that no matter what they can be together and be a strong couple. Lana is willing to give it all up for Drake but is Drake willing to do the same for Lana? Can he and Lana have a relationship with Drake and not get hurt?

This is a MUST MUST read series and I look forward to book four. Thanks Terri!

Excerpts:

Drakes POV:

My head snapped around at the sound of that voice, and I was sure that my heart stopped in my chest when I met the whiskey colored eyes of an angel. Her long, midnight black hair was pulled back in a ponytail. Her brown-amber eyes were huge in her beautiful face. She had plump lips that were almost bee stung and a nose that was tipped at the end. The angel was tall, her waist long and slender, but she had curves that made my body ache to hold her against me.

This angel was young; I would say no more than twenty-one…Layla introduced the angel. “Lana, this is Jesse and that’s Drake. Guys, this is my seventeen year old sister, Lana.”

Seventeen. Seventeen. SEVENTEEN!

Seven-fucking-teen!

The number bounced around in my already throbbing head, and I thought I was going to go mad from it. No! Not seventeen. She had to be older. I couldn’t be attracted in a seventeen year old girl.

“It’s nice to meet you, Lana,” Jesse said as he stared at the angel.

I was fascinated by the pretty pink that flooded her cheeks. “Yeah, you too,” she murmured and glanced at her sister. “Layla, can you help me with something in the bathroom?”

The sisters left us alone in the living room, and Jesse dropped down on the sofa beside of me. “Dude, you look pale.”

I wasn’t surprised. I think I had actually felt the color drain from my face when Layla had said the word seventeen. I felt sick to my stomach for an entirely different reason than the ones that I had woken up to.

Lana’s POV:

Sometime much, much later, my tears finally started to dry and the cold that had numbed me started to thaw enough to make me realize that I should be mad. I was in love with Drake, and after Friday night, I was sure that he was in love with me too, or that he at least cared about me as more than a friend… Now, with him fucking some other girl in his hotel room, unconcerned that I would hear him, I knew that I had been wrong.

All I would ever be to him was his friend, and I would have to accept that. But there was no way I could carry on the way we had been the last few months. I wasn’t that good of an actress. I sucked at pretending, especially when my feelings were involved. And they didn’t get any more involved than they were right now.

It would kill me to have to see him day after day, knowing that he had gone from lying in bed with me one night to screwing some other chick the next. Maybe that was how it worked in the rocker world—okay, so I knew that that was how it worked in the rocker world, but I couldn’t deal with that kind of messed up shit.

As the night dragged on, I realized what I had to do. It was going to be hard. It meant doing things I had promised never to do, but sometimes you had to do what was best for you, not what was best for someone else.
